Stiles in fashion at Lone
Star By
Steve Molnar
KILGORE, TX (May 15, 1999) - Ronnie Adams averted disaster and collected
an extra $1000 bonus from local businessman Larry Stiles as he claimed his third OReillys
Southern United Professional Racing (SUPR) victory of the year at Lone Star Speedway.
Stiles posted the bonus to the driver who wins the most OReillys SUPR races at
Lone Star this year and Adams 3rd victory in as many tries wrapped up the bonus with 2
races to go.
Adams started the feature in the 10th position and quickly worked his way forward before
grabbing the lead from his A-1 Auto Salvage teammate Duke Whiseant on lap 16. Once out
front Adams appeared to have a comfortable lead until he tangled with the lapped car of
Casey Jordan on lap 33. Adams survived the altercation with moderate front-end damage but
had to stave off Whiseant and Larry Ritter to hold onto to the win.
(The contact with Jordan) bent that nose down and started digging in the dirt. Thats
why I had so much trouble there at the end. The car was digging down in the ground and
caused a push on me. So I had to start easing up getting into the corners.
When the race restarted with 8 laps to go, it was a 3-car battle as Whiseant and Ritter
were right behind Adams. Whiseant took several looks under Adams while Ritter grabbed 2nd
with 3 to go only to see Whiseant grab it back with 2 to go. Dave Siegert, who claimed the
Lloyd Wild Jr. Logging Hard Charger award moving up from his 19th starting spot was
fourth, followed by Kenny Merchant in his new J.D.Caver-owned Warrior.
33 Late Models were on hand and Casey Jordan claimed the GRT Top Qualifier award. He drew
a 6 for the feature while Randy Cook drew an ace and started on the pole in just his first
visit to the track. Heat winners were Jordan, Marlon Wild, Kenny Merchant, Bubba Mullins
and Whiseant while Rob Litton and Dennis Duncan claimed the last chance wins.
