Adams gets fourth career July 4th weekend Boothill SUPR win

By Steve Molnar

GREENWOOD, LA (July 3, 1999) - For ten years the O’Reilly’s Southern United Professional Racing (SUPR) Late Model Series has paid a visit to Boothill Speedway to help celebrate the Fourth of July and one man has come to dominate this event. Ronny Adams won that very first Boothill Fourth of July race and now he has won the latest (his fourth). Adams stormed past his A-1 Auto Salvage teammate, Duke Whiseant on the 4th lap and held off the determined challenges of Doug Ingalls to take the win.

Adams, who has now won 6 races on the 1999 O’Reilly’s SUPR tour has actually been struggling as of late. "You spend four or five weeks getting your tail kicked, then these things you got to appreciate them when you get them." And while Doug Ingalls pressured Adams throughout the race, the closest call may have come from Mother Nature as a light rain began to fall during a lap 16 caution for Dave Siegert, who lost his second motor in as many nights. After a few extra laps to dry the track back down, the racing resumed and Adams was able to hold off Doug Ingalls before pulling away in lapped traffic.

Doug Ingalls, who hasn’t run his Late Model much this year, so much so that the car had cobwebs on it when it went through tech, showed that he still has what it takes to run up front. "It’s nice to get back over here and get back in something I know. My brakes got to fading there toward the end of the race and considering the way my year’s been going, I was just happy to hang in there and not tear my car up and get a second out of this."

Rusty Cummings continued to have a strong weekend as he claimed third to night ahead of Jay Blair and 1995 SUPR champion Ronnie Poche who was back racing this weekend for the first time in over a year. He drove Jody Prince’s GRT to fifth after running eight the night before in Many. "It was just kind of a weekend deal. I’ve had time off and I really enjoyed it. I really don’t know what my future plans are."

Thirty-nine Late Models were on hand and Rusty Cummings was the GRT Top Qualifier. Heat winners were Marlon Wild, Doug Ingalls, Rusty Cummings, Rob Litton, Ronny Adams and Duke Whiseant. Lee Davis and Jay Blair joined the field by claiming the two Last Chance races. Jay Blair took full advantage of his starting spot as he moved from 16th to 4th to claim the Lloyd Wild Jr. Logging Hard Charger award.
