| No. 14 Dave Ashley pops a wheely. |
BAKER, LA (August 6, 1999) - 26 SUPR late
models ran the Top Seal Pit Stop Challenge. All 26 made a lap around the track into the
infield, stopped in front of the fans, jacked up the car and changed a tire, returned to
the track and drove half way around again. That time was combined with the time for one
complete lap. David Ashley came on to the entrance to the tire changing spot a little
different than the other drivers did, Ashley hit the opening with his foot in the gas and
mud flew everywhere. It paid off for him as he timed a 64.38 on the tire change and was
the only one to dip into the 15's, with a combined time of 80.21.
David Ashley took the first heat win after Marlon Wild lead all but the last two laps when
Ashley took the spot away.
During the second heat, Donald Watson took the lead at the drop of the green and held off
Dave Siegert to take the win.
Heat three was fast and furious as Duke Whiesant jumped into the lead followed by a three
wide battle between Jay Blair, Richie Ginn and Kevin Watts. Blair won that battle and got
under Whiesant taking over the lead. Whiesant got uback nder Blair and stole back the
lead. Yellow flew twice for Ginn spinning and once when Brent Gore spun. Whiesant took the
win.
At the beginning of heat four, Chris Cassano ran from the pole and took the lead off turn
four. A few laps later, he had to pull into the middle of the track with mechanical
problems allowing Eric Courville to score the win.
Jerry Cassano was the only modified to get into the 17's. He turned the fast time with a
17.97 and sat on the pole for the first heat. Cassano took the lead on the drop of the
green and led every lap to score the win. Mike Milton, Bobby Semple and Darty Smith shared
heat wins with Cassano.
Kerry Vicknair and Bobby Tate took street stock heats. Alan Rainwater and Michael Blackard
took the pure stock heat wins. Lance Dubois won the mini stock heat but brother Jeremy
took the feature followed by Alvin King, Billy Watts, Jon Sasser, and Wesley LaFleur. |
