SUPR rolls into Byram for a night of
excitement at Jackson Motor speedway
BYRAM, MS
(September 15, 1999) - The chase for the 1999 O'Reilly Southern United
Professional Racing (SUPR) Championship is coming right down to the wire as a mere 15
points now separate David Ashley and Duke Whiseant. The battle will resume this Saturday
night September 18, 1999 at Jackson Motor Speedway in Byram, Mississippi. David Ashley, of
Zachary, Louisiana has claimed three O'Reilly SUPR features, including a victory at
Jackson Motor Speedway in April. Duke Whiseant, of Texarkana, Arkansas has claimed four
features including a recent win at Boothill Speedway that saw Whiseant take over the point
lead. The lead was brief as Ashley regained the lead with a runner-up finish at Thunder
Valley Speedway the next night out. The pair finished nose to tail this past weekend in
the Arkansas State Championships at I-30 Speedway with Ashley in third and Whiseant in
fourth.
Ronny Adams, of Greenwood, Louisiana, who has won six O'Reilly SUPR events this year and
is second on the all-time win list currently resides third in points just ahead of Jay
Blair. Blair, of Angie, Louisiana is the 1998 O'Reilly SUPR rookie of the year is was just
crowned the Arkansas State Champion with his victory last week at I-30 Speedway. Marlon
Wild, of Springfield, Louisiana is fifth in points with one victory. Diamond Dave Siegert,
of Mesquite, Texas, the leading Rookie of the Year contender with one victory is sixth in
points.
Joining all of the O'Reilly SUPR competitors will be the 4-time Mississippi State
Champion, Mike Boland. Boland, of Cuba, Alabama is expected to compete this weekend and he
looks to improve on his finish at the April race. Boland started that race in 14th and had
steadily worked his way to the front only to have a tire go flat as he battled for the
lead with eventual runner-up Marlon Wild. Larry Ritter, of Jackson, Mississippi is also
expected to be on hand along with his Majestic Metals teammate Dennis Duncan of Byram,
Mississippi. Ritter has claimed two O'Reilly SUPR features this year and Duncan is the
defending Jackson Motor Speedway track champion.
The action gets underway at 8:00 p.m.this Saturday night with heat races, last chance
races and the 40-lap O'Reilly SUPR Late Model feature. Joining in on the action will be
local racing in Mini Stocks, Street Stocks, Southern Modifieds and the UMP Modifieds.
Jackson Motor Speedway is located South of Jackson on I-55 to exit 85 (Byram), then .7
mile east on Siwel Rd. to Old Byram Rd., then .4 mile north, then east. For further
