SUPR champ to be decided at Jambalaya 100

MAGNOLIA, MS (November 3, 1999) – Pike County Speedway and Pepsi are proud to present the 3rd annual Jambalaya 100 this Friday and Saturday night, November 5-6. The Jambalaya 100 is the final stop on the 1999 O’Reilly Southern United Professional Racing (SUPR) Dirt Late Model Series. And while the weather may have cooled, the action is as hot as ever with Duke Whiseant and David Ashley separated by just six points in the 1999 O’Reilly SUPR Championship point standings.

Whiseant of Texarkana, Ark., winner of the Louisiana State Championships at Baton Rouge Raceway, is the new point leader following the victory. Whiseant has come into his own this year as a Late Model competitor and he has been in hot pursuit of Ashley all season. Whiseant has claimed five O’Reilly SUPR victories this year including the $5,000-to-win GRT 50 at I-30 Speedway in July.

Ashley of Zachary, La., has claimed four O’Reilly SUPR victories himself this year with the highlight being his triumph in the 5th annual SUPR Star 125 at Baton Rouge Raceway in August and he has led the point standings for most of the year. He’s looking to grab the point title at his home away from home, Pike County Speedway.

Ronny Adams of Greenwood, La., a six-time winner on the 1999 O’Reilly SUPR tour, is the defending Jambalaya 100 winner. Adams dominated the action last year with his A-1 Auto Salvage GRT and he looks to do the same this year. Adams’ hot streak at Pike County continued into 1999 as he claimed the first O’Reilly SUPR race of the year at 3/8-mile speedplant.

Larry Ritter of Jackson will be on hand leading a strong contingency of Mississippi competitors. Ritter has taken over the role of dominator at Pike County as he has claimed the last two O’Reilly SUPR races at Pike County. He’ll be joined by his Majestic Metals teammate, Dennis Duncan of Byram, Miss. Duncan has recently been competing at Pike County’s weekly program and he claimed a victory over a strong field two weeks ago and returned last week to claim runner-up honors to Ashley. Scott Slay is another Jackson-area racer expected to be on hand for the Jambalaya 100.

1999 Pike County Late Model track champion Neal Temple of Loranger, La., is expected to be on hand as are local favorites and O’Reilly SUPR point competitors Jay Blair of Angie, La., and Elizabeth Halpin-Smith of Baton Rouge, La.

The action gets underway this Friday night with gates opening at 3 p.m. and the races start at 7:30. Friday night's action will feature heat race action in the Pure Stocks, Mini Stocks, Street Stocks, Super Stocks, UMP Modifieds and the O’Reilly SUPR Late Models. The action gets underway with time trials for the SUPR late Models and the local Super Stock competitors.

The racing continues on Saturday night as gates again open at 3 p.m. and the races gets started at 7:30. The O'Reilly SUPR Late Models will start the night off with the last chance races for non-qualifiers to determine the final starting positions for the Jambalaya 100. Following feature races in the Pure Stock, Street Stock and Mini Stock divisions, the O’Reilly SUPR late Models will hit the track for the Jambalaya 100. The night will be capped off with the Super Stock and UMP Modified features.

Come join in on the fun at Pike County Speedway, where the racing comes alive at I-55. Pike County Speedway is located at the Gillsburg Road exit (Exit 8) and I-55 in Magnolia, Mississippi. For additional information call the Pike County Speedway offices at (601) 684-9230.
