O'Reilly SUPR Sprint Cars to debut Friday Night!

Baton Rouge, Louisiana (March 29, 2002) – This weekend will mark the beginning of a new era in Sprint Car competition in the Gulf South, as the O'Reilly SUPR Sprint Cars Series will race for the very first time.  The O’Reilly SUPR Sprint Car Series will begin with a double header this weekend with the action getting underway Friday Night at Simpson County Motorsports Park in D'Lo, Mississippi.  The tour will then travel down to Baton Rouge Raceway for a rare Saturday night show.

What makes the O’Reilly SUPR Sprint Car Series unique is that the Sprint Car series will utilize the same spec motor package as is utilized with great success in the O’Reilly SUPR Late Model Series.  The package consists of a steel block with flat top pistons and a spec Brodix aluminum head.  This package is designed to keep the cost of racing down but the engines are by no meaning a slouch on the track with the packaging producing in the area of 600 horsepower.  The fact that the motor has been in use for nearly ten years in the Late Models shows that the package has proven to be reliable and that has ensured that there is a plentiful supply of engines in the marketplace.

The O’Reilly SUPR Sprint Car Series will get the 2002 season underway Friday night at Simpson County Motorsports Park.  The gates will open at 5:00 p.m. and the racing starts at 8:00 p.m.  Simpson County Motorsports Park is located North of Mendenhall on US 49, then 1.2 miles west on SR 13 to Water Park exit, then 1.5 miles north on Old US 49, then 2.6 miles west on Jupiter Rd., then .4 mile south on Jeff Alexander Rd.  The track phone number is 601-847-0780.

The racing action continues in Saturday night, as the O’Reilly SUPR Sprint Car Series will visit Baton Rouge Raceway.  The Baton Rouge gates will open at 4:00 p.m. with the racing getting underway at 7:30 p.m.  Baton Rouge Raceway is located north of Baton Rouge off Plank Road.  Take I-110 to exit 6, then 1 mile east on SR 408, then 6 miles north on SR 67 (Plank Rd.)

To thank the sprint car competitors for their support, O'Reilly Auto Parts has posted a $100 bonus to every driver that competes at both events.

The O’Reilly SUPR Sprint Car Series would like to thank our 2002 sponsors Brodix, Jimmy Smith Racing Tires, Trailer World, Schoenfeld, Wall2Wall Performance Engines, AFCO, Breaux Petroleum, Lone Star Super Gas and Wynn’s Oil.
