The O'Reilly SUPR Sprint Cars return to action Friday night at Baton Rouge Raceway

Baton Rouge, Louisiana (April 29, 2002) - The O'Reilly SUPR Sprint Cars return to action this Friday night with a return visit to Baton Rouge Raceway.  This will be the third event of the young O’Reilly SUPR Sprint Car season that will see the Sprint Cars travel to 5 tracks in Louisiana and Mississippi for a total of 14 events.

Michael Herrington topped the competition when the O’Reilly SUPR Sprint Cars first visited Baton Rouge Raceway on April 6th and he leads Butch David by a single point in the championship point standings.  David claimed the very first O'Reilly SUPR Sprint Car at Simpson County Speedway on April 5th.  Herrington and David have battled up front through much of the first two races utilizing a steel head/steel block motor combination but their reign at the front of the pack may soon end as Glynn LeBlanc has become increasingly competitive with his SUPR spec motor package.  LeBlanc uses the same motor combination that is found in the O’Reilly SUPR Late Model fields.  The motor is a 360 cubic inch steel block motor coupled with a spec Brodix aluminum head.  This powerful but low cost motor package has proven its reliability in O’Reilly SUPR Late Model competition and early indications are that the motor will be equally competitive in the Sprint Cars.

Terry Vidrine has captured the first two Wynn’s Hard Charger awards and while he enjoys the generous supply of Wynn’s cleaner and lubricant products that he has earned for his efforts, he is hoping to qualifying higher up in the racing order so that he won’t have to work so hard to get into the top half of the field.

Darrell Hyde is another competitor looking to change his luck this weekend.  And while Vidrine has struggled early in the night, Hyde’s trouble has primarily occurred in the feature.  Hyde won his heat race at Simpson County Motorsports Park but contact with the outside wall resulted in an early night for Hyde. Hyde was once again in a strong position heading into the feature at Baton Rouge Raceway but his night once again came to an early end.  He’s hopeful that his luck will turn this weekend.

Adding to the excitement at Baton Rouge Raceway will be the O’Reilly SUMA Modifieds.  This will be the second O’Reilly SUMA event of the year and local Baton Rouge Raceway competitor Jerry Cassano will be seeking his second straight victory against the traveling competition.  The Sprint Cars and Modifieds will be joined by a slate of local competitors running in the Street Stocks, Pure Stocks, Mini Stocks and Cruisers with the youngsters also taking part in the action, as they’ll be on hand with the Yard Karts.

Joins us at Baton Rouge Raceway this Friday night for a full night of action and excitement.  The gates will open at 5:00 p.m. and the racing gets underway at 8:00 p.m.  Baton Rouge Raceway is located north of Baton Rouge on I-110 to exit 6, then 1 mile east on State Route 408 and then 6 miles north on State Route 67 (Plank Road).  For further information call Greg Holmes at 22-275-5040 or the racetrack at 225-774-4524.

The O’Reilly SUPR Sprint Car Series would like to thank our 2002 sponsors Brodix, Jimmy Smith Racing Tires, Trailer World, Schoenfeld, Wall2Wall Performance Engines, AFCO, Breaux Petroleum, Lone Star Super Gas and Wynn’s Oil.
