Baton Rouge, Louisiana (May 3, 2002) – Butch David became the first repeat winner with the O’Reilly SUPR Sprint Car Series as he bested the competition at Baton Rouge Raceway. David started at the front and would lead all 25 laps to stake the victory over Glenn LeBlanc, Darrel Hyde, Harold Henderson and Carey Farmer. With the win, David has established himself at the top of the O’Reilly SUPR Sprint Car Championship point standings as he now leads Glen LeBlanc by 35 points. David started off the night by winning his heat race. Harold Henderson staked the victory in the second heat race and the pair battled in to turn 1 with David seizing the point. The first four laps were uneventful with David building a lead over Henderson. Lap 5 saw the first caution unfurled as David Kountz made hard contact with the turn 2 wall with his car taking a tumble off the backstretch. Kountz was okay but his car was finished for the night. The action continued with David and Henderson setting the pace until lap 10, when the second and final caution waved as Terry Vidrine and Mike Herrington tangled. Herrington’s car flipped – ending a rough night for Herrington, who had also tagged the wall during the hot laps. David would lead the final 15 laps to take the win, but Henderson’s car would start to fade as first Glenn LeBlanc caught and passed Henderson on lap 16 and then Darrel Hyde, the Wynn’s Hard Charger, would claim third from Henderson with three laps to go.
