Rodney Wing fires opening shot of the July 4th celebration

Baton Rouge, Louisiana (July 4, 2002) - Rodney Wing of Meridian, Mississippi once again visited victory lane at Baton Rouge Raceway and his third victory of the season helped propel him to an even larger lead in the battle for the 2002 O'Reilly SUPR Late Model Championships.  Wing driving the B&K Underground/Boland Performance/Styling Signs & Decals Keith Craft-powered Chevrolet Monte Carlo Rocket earned the B&K Underground Top Qualifier award based on his heat race performance.  Wing started on the pole and then went on lead every lap of the feature to take the win holding off a late charge by David Ashley in the process.

The win propelled Wing to a 106 point lead over David Ashley, who moved up to second in the standings as a result of his second place finish.  Ashley from nearby Zachary, Louisiana struggled in his heat race and was forced to earn a transfer through the last chance race.  Ashley then earned the Lloyd Wild Jr. Logging Hard Charger award as he stormed through the field from his 20th starting position in his Thornhill Wrecker/J&J Motorsports/Huggins Cams Wall 2 Wall Performance Engines powered Chevrolet Monte Carlo Larry Shaw race car.  But Ashley was unable to close in on Wing who has show an uncanny ability to get around Baton Rouge Raceway as he scored his third victory in his last four visits to the ¼ mile oval.

Rob Litton, from Alexandria, Louisiana ran a steady race and scored a top three finish as he has begun to reel in a strong of solid finishes that are helping to move him closer to the top 5 in the point standings.  Keith Craft, from Arkadelphia, Arkansas scored a solid fourth place just ahead of local racer and former track champion, Kevin Watts of Denham Springs.

32 O’Reilly SUPR Late Models were on hand and the local track competitors faired very well in the heat race action as Kevin Watts, three-time track champion Jerry Bevis and current point contender Phil Cooper swept the first three heat races.  Rodney Wing and Rob Litton topped the remaining heat races with Jon Mitchell and Chris Wall topping the last chance races.
