McComb, Mississippi (July 6, 2002) - Michael Herrington must of felt like he was chasing David Kountz all night and in some ways he was but he finally caught Kountz and made the pass to take his 4th O'Reilly SUPR Sprint Car feature of the year. Kountz won the second heat race just ahead of Herrington and he took the early lead in tonight's feature as well. Kountz held a solid lead over the field but as the race moved past the halfway mark, Herrington was once again filling his mirrors. This time Herrington would not be denied as he snagged the lead and a season high 4th victory in the process. Herrington also closed in on Butch David in the chase for the inaugural O'Reilly SUPR Sprint Car Championship as he now trails by just 11 points after 7 events. The night started out well for Cary Farmer as he topped the first heat and started on the pole for the feature but his night ended early as he rolled his car on the opening lap in turn 1. This handed the lead to Kountz who led until Herrington made the late pass for the win. Harold Henderson solidified his hold on third place in the point standings with a solid third place finish. Butch David, winner of the third heat race, had an off night by his standards but still recorded a 4th place finish ahead of Darrell Hyde. Glynn LeBlanc overcame a wounded motor in his heat race as his crew hustled to change the power plant in time for the feature. LeBlanc started 13th and charged through the field to finish 6th and he earned the Wynn's Hard Charger for his efforts. Wendell Magnon, first time O'Reilly SUPR Sprint Car starter Bruce Blaker, Billy Gunter and Mark Roth rounded out the top 10. 15 O'Reilly SUPR Sprint Cars were on hand. The next event is set for Friday night July 19th at Baton Rouge Raceway. Official Results:
