11th Annual Armadillo Nationals are this weekend!

Baton Rouge, Louisiana (July 30, 2002) - This weekend Lone Star Speedway and Sadler’s Smokehouse present the 11th Annual Armadillo Nationals with heat races slated for Friday night August 2nd and last chance and a big 50-lap feature slated for Saturday night August 3rd.  The 23rd stop on the O’Reilly SUPR Late Model Championship trail, Armadillo Nationals will pay $5,000 to win and $750 to start.  In addition, Coca-Cola has posted over $5,000 in lap money with the driver and a fan receiving $50 each per lap with a $500 bonus to the driver who leads the most laps.

Last year a packed house witnessed Mike Bowers’ dominant performance as he led every lap of the feature to claim the biggest win of his career.  Bowers of North Little Rock, Arkansas is expected to be on hand to defend his title.  To do so, he’ll have to top a solid field of cars lead by the top 3 in O’Reilly SUPR Championship points, Rodney Wing, David Ashley and Kenny Merchant.  Between the three drivers, they have claimed 10 of the 22 events held this year and they are within 100 points of each other in the battle for the championship.

The field will also be injected with a strong Texas flavor as local favorites Michael Coleman from Tyler, Ricky Ingalls and Jason Ingalls from Longview are expected to lead the charge.  Clint Baker from Crockett is another Texan who is earning a strong reputation at Lone Star, recording a solid top 5 finish at the O’Reilly SUPR event held in July at Lone Star and Jon Mitchell from Texarkana is fresh off an O’Reilly SUPR victory at Champion Park Speedway in Doyline, Louisiana.
