Byram, Mississippi (October 12, 2002) - Michael Herrington Jr. responded to a poor outing at Pike County Speedway by snagging a season-high 7th victory as the O'Reilly SUPR Sprint Car Series paid its finally visit of the 2002 season to the Magnolia State. More important for Herrington, he closed to within 48 points of Butch David in the battle for the inaugural O'Reilly SUPR Sprint Car Championship with just 2 races to go. Michael Herrington Jr. was ready to race tonight as he topped the first heat race and earned the pole position for the feature but it was Jackson, Mississippi's Al Killebrew that was the early leader. Killebrew won the second heat and started on the outside pole. Killebrew grabbed the lead and led the race until the halfway mark when a slight bobble gave Herrington the chance he was looking for and Herrington would lead the remaining laps to take the win. Jackson Motor Speedway proved to be racy with two grooves available and the drivers took full advantage of the conditions with tight battles throughout the field and 25 caution free laps of racing with all cars running at the checkers. Herman Carrier held off Billy Gunter to claim third with Terry Vidrine rounding out the top 5 just ahead of Butch David who had an uncharacteristic off night. Harold Henderson, David Bryant, Mark Roth and Glen Clement rounded out the top 10.
