Darrell Hyde breaks through with first O'Reilly SUPR Sprint Car victory at
SCMP

Mendenhall
,
Mississippi
– Darrell Hyde claimed his first-ever O’Reilly SUPR Sprint Car feature
Friday night at
Simpson
County
Motorsports
Park
. Hyde, now driving for the
TMG Motorsports/Gold Star Graphics team and car owner Tom McLain, took
over the lead on lap 20 and powered away from the field for the victory.
Hyde, from
Ponchatoula
,
Louisiana
started 6th and steadily worked his way forward in an event
that saw 4 different leaders.
Defending
O’Reilly SUPR Sprint Car champion Butch David was the Top Qualifier and
lead the first two laps before
Gulfport
,
Mississippi
’s Shane Morgan took over the top spot.
Morgan would lead from lap 3 until lap 14 when Terry Vidrine took
over the top spot. Vidrine
would lead for the next 6 laps but was under constant pressure from
Morgan. Morgan tried to retake
the lead but got into Vidrine and Terry’s #68 went into a pair of flips.
Morgan was black flagged and Vidrine’s race was done.
This allowed Hyde, who had already worked his way past the likes of
Michael Herrington and Butch David to take over the lead, a lead he would
not relinquish.
Butch David recorded his strongest finish of the season with a second
place run just ahead of his title rival from last year and current point
leader Michael Herrington. Glynn
LeBlanc recorded another steady finish in 4th place with
Cassidy Lejeune bringing his new car home in 5th.
Butch
David and Harold Henderson started the night off on a positive note with a
pair of heat race victories.
Henderson
unfortunately saw a good finish slip away when he hit the restart cone and
was sent to the rear. He
recovered to finish 6th.
