Michael Dupuy scores his first O'Reilly SUPR Sprint victory

Jackson , Mississippi ( July 12, 2003 ) – Michael Dupuy returned to victory lane for the first time in 2003 as he earned his first ever O’Reilly SUPR Sprint Car victory at Jackson Motor Speedway.  Dupuy, the runner-up in the ASCS circuit in 2002 elected to stay closer to home in 2003 and after a late start to the season; Dupuy rode the rim at Jackson to score his first win of 2003.  Dupuy from Amite, Louisiana started the feature on the inside of row two but it would be the outside where he made his mark as he jumped to the outside of Terry Vidrine on a lap 4 restart and set sail to a dominant victory over Vidrine and the rest of the competitors.

Dupuy was helped by the fact that Vidrine was busy fending off a 4 way battle for second between Vidrine, Butch David, Michael Herrington and Shane Morgan.  Vidrine was able to hold on to second ahead of last night’s winner Herrington.  Butch David recovered from last night’s dnf to finish fourth while Gulfport , Mississippi ’s Shane Morgan finished fifth for another solid finish.

Harold Henderson finished 6th ahead of Darrell Hyde who struggled with motor troubles but rebounded to finish seventh.  Glynn LeBlanc returned to the tour with an 8th place finish while Herman Carrier recovered from his early altercation to finish 9th.  Billy Gunter came home in 10th one position ahead of his Central Mississippi neighbor Bobby Ingram.

The race was slowed by two cautions, the first on lap 4 when Herman Carrier and Steve Murphy got together and the second was on lap 9 when Paul Gleber spun.

Top Qualifier Butch David and Terry Vidrine won the two heat races and started on the front row with Vidrine grabbing the early lead down low but his lead only lasted until the first caution which is when Dupuy mounted his charge in the Trailer World/Lester’s Body Shop #00 car.
