Shane Morgan claims first O'Reilly SUPR Sprint victory!

McComb , Mississippi ( July 26, 2003 ) – Shane Morgan of Gulfport , Mississippi earned his first ever victory at the wheel of an O’Reilly SUPR Sprint Car as he led all 25-laps to take the victory at Pike County Speedway.  Morgan, running in his first full season with the O’Reilly SUPR Sprint Car Series, Morgan has emerged as a serious threat to win and tonight he backed up that promise with a convincing performance that saw Morgan jumped to the lead right from the start and he never looked back en route to victory.  Morgan started on the outside pole alongside defending O’Reilly SUPR Sprint Car Champion Butch David.

Morgan jumped to the high side right from the start and then stayed glued to the rim as he had to hold off the challenges of three on the tour toughest competitors, first David challenged in second and then Michael Herrington Jr. moved up to second on lap seven.  Herrington would get two clear chances to challenge Morgan when two cautions closed the pack up and led to restarts on lap 11 and 15 but Morgan was up to the challenge.  Late in the race Herrington faded back to third when Michael Dupuy, winner of the most recent tour stop at Jackson Motor Speedway finished a charge from his seventh starting spot to take second on lap 19.  But while Dupuy was storming through the field he could not catch the Morgan and his Morgan Equipment and Crane Company/Cumberland Motorsports/LB Bolling & Son Klarr Racing-powered Gambler.  At the checkers, the top 5 was Morgan, Dupuy, Herrington, David and Darrell Hyde.

Terry Vidrine finished sixth while Harold Henderson borrowed Mickey Carrier’s #9 usually piloted by Billy Gunter to finish seventh.  Henderson recently sold his own car and borrowed the Diamond Engines-backed Gambler as Gunter is out of the country on a work assignment.  Glen Clement made a rare visit to the tour and secured an eight place finish ahead of Bobby Ingram and Paul Gleber.

Butch David started the night out by winning the first heat and earning the pole position for the feature while Shane Morgan topped the second heat to earn the outside pole.
