Marlon Wild keeps changing but keeps winning!

McComb , Mississippi ( August 9, 2003 ) – Marlon Wild drove yet another different combination to victory lane tonight at Pike County Speedway.  Wild who is well know for his willingness to try just about any race car drove his new Wall 2 Wall powered MasterSbilt to victory retaking the lead from Kenny Merchant on lap 38 and holding off the late charge of Jay Blair.  The victory marked Wild’s 8th career O’Reilly SUPR Late Model victory and his first victory of the season for the Springfield , Louisiana logger.  Marlon earned a $500 bonus from Wall 2 Wall Performance Engines to bring his winnings to $3,000 tonight.

Wild started on the outside pole and took the early lead of the race as he out dueled B&K Underground Top Qualifier Chris Wall for the lead.  Wild would hold the lead until lap 9 when Kenny Merchant made the pass through turns 3 and 4.  Merchant was strong for most of the race but he found himself under serious challenge on lap 38 when Wild tried to work under him exiting turn 2 while Curt Lipsey went even lower to make it a three car duel for the lead.  Lipsey emerged with the lead only to see the caution wave for a tangle further back in the pack.  As the field paced the track it became apparent that Merchant’s challenge had increased partially due to the fact that he had a wounded racer.  In fact, his night ended before the race could get back underway as his radiator had become disengaged and had pressed into the motor fan and ruptured.

Wild assumed the point and was able to hold off Curt Lipsey on the restart.  Fuel economy became an issue in the late stages of the race as both Wild and Lipsey reported fuel pickup concerns in the closing stages.  Wild had built enough of a lead to hold on to the win but Lipsey succumbed to pressure from Jay Blair who took second in the closing stages but could not run down Wild.  Lispey finished third just ahead of Rodney Wing who made a strong charge through the field after an early spin sent him to the rear of the 22-car field.

Kevin Watts was in the top 5 all night and held on to a 5th place finish just ahead of Phil Cooper, Ryan Plaisance, Lloyd Wild Jr. Logging Hard Charger Doug Ingalls, who started 22nd and passed 14 cars to finish 8th, Donald Watson and James Ward rounded out the top 10.

33 O’Reilly SUPR Late Models were on hand.  Heat winners were Kenny Merchant, Marlon Wild, Jay Blair, Trey Beene and Chris Wall.  Darin Patrick and Bubba Mullins took the Last Chance victories.
