Baton Rouge, Louisiana (September 4, 2003) - The O'Reilly SUPR Late Models will return to Baton Rouge Raceway this Friday night, September 5th for the first time since the track has undergone a transformation to a broader and larger oval. The changes will have the drivers scrambling to find the correct setup as none of the drivers have had an opportunity to put in a lap on the track since the changes have occurred. That will all change tonight as Baton Rouge Raceway will host an open practice session that will run from 7:00 p.m. until 11:00 p.m. Pit pass will be $15 with general admission at $3. Of course the open practice will help set the tone for the action that will take place on Friday night as the O'Reilly SUPR Late Models compete in a 40-lap $2,000 to win feature. They'll be joined by the Coca-Cola UMP Modifieds, Super Stocks, Street Stocks, Pure Stocks, Cruisers and Yard Karts. The night will kick off with heat races in each class with the O'Reilly SUPR Late Models returning for last chance races before the features are run in each class. The O'Reilly SUPR Late Model race at Baton Rouge Raceway will play a big role in determining positions in the 2003 Championship Point Standings. Kenny Merchant of West Monroe, Louisiana holds a solid lead over James "Binky" Ward of Lettsworth, Louisiana but the battle for position quickly tightens behind the leader as Ward holds a 94 point lead over Zachary's (LA) David Ashley with Curt Lipsey of Hammond (LA) just 33 points behind Ashley. The O'Reilly SUPR Late Models will then point their haulers westward for a swing across the Sabine River for the 2nd Annual Longhorn Rumble at Houston Raceway Park on Saturday night, September 6th.
