Michael Dupuy takes third Sprint victory of the season

Mendenhall , Mississippi ( September 6, 2003 ) - Michael Dupuy returned to victory lane for the third time this season in O’Reilly SUPR Sprint Car action at Simpson County Speedway.  Dupuy overcame early leader Terry Vidrine and then won a back and forth battle with Michael Herrington, Jr. to secure the victory in the Lester’s Body Shop/Trailer World/Pro Lube Center sprinter.  Dupuy got a late start to his season missing the first four races but since that time Dupuy has won 3 of the 8 races that he has entered.

Michael Dupuy and Terry Vidrine topped the heat races and shared the front row.  Vidrine would grab the early lead but Dupuy chased down Vidrine and took the lead on lap 4 only to see Herrington take over the point on the very next lap.  Herrington would lead laps 5 and 6 but Dupuy worked back by him on lap 7 and then pulled away for the victory as Simpson County Motorsports Park closed its racing season.

While Amite, Louisiana ’s Dupuy took the victory, Herrington continued to out pace his closest competitors in the battle for the 2003 O’Reilly SUPR Sprint Car Championship and now leads Terry Vidrine by 139 points with just 4 races left to go.  Herrington extended his lead as he held on to second after Dupuy’s pass while Butch David worked by Vidrine to finish third.  Vidrine held on to 4th place while Shane Morgan rounded out the top 5.  Rookie O’Reilly SUPR Sprint Car competitor Lincoln Gatwood secured a 6th place in his first O’Reilly SUPR feature start.  Harold Henderson wheeled Butch David’s back-up car to a 7th place finish with Billy Gunter, Mark Roth and Bobby Ingram completing the top 10.
