Michael Dupuy takes third Sprint victory
of the season

) - Michael Dupuy
returned to victory lane for the third time this season in O’Reilly SUPR
Sprint Car action at Simpson County Speedway.
Dupuy overcame early leader Terry Vidrine and then won a back and
forth battle with Michael Herrington, Jr. to secure the victory in the
Lester’s Body Shop/Trailer World/Pro Lube Center sprinter. Dupuy
got a late start to his season missing the first four races but since that
time Dupuy has won 3 of the 8 races that he has entered.
Michael Dupuy and Terry Vidrine topped the heat races and
shared the front row. Vidrine
would grab the early lead but Dupuy chased down Vidrine and took the lead
on lap 4 only to see Herrington take over the point on the very next lap.
Herrington would lead laps 5 and 6 but Dupuy worked back by him on
lap 7 and then pulled away for the victory as
Simpson
County
Motorsports
Park
closed its racing
season.
While
Amite,
Louisiana
’s Dupuy took the
victory, Herrington continued to out pace his closest competitors in the
battle for the 2003 O’Reilly SUPR Sprint Car Championship and now leads
Terry Vidrine by 139 points with just 4 races left to go.
Herrington extended his lead as he held on to second after
Dupuy’s pass while Butch David worked by Vidrine to finish third.
Vidrine held on to 4th place while Shane Morgan rounded
out the top 5. Rookie
O’Reilly SUPR Sprint Car competitor Lincoln Gatwood secured a 6th
place in his first O’Reilly SUPR feature start.
Harold Henderson wheeled Butch David’s back-up car to a 7th place
finish with Billy Gunter, Mark Roth and Bobby Ingram completing the top
10.
