O'Reilly SUPR Late Models release 2004 Schedule

Baton Rouge, Louisiana (January 2, 2004) - The O’Reilly Southern United Professional Racing (SUPR) Late Models released its 2004 schedule today, a schedule that will see the series travel to 13 race tracks in five states.  Highlights of the 2004 schedule include first-ever visits to Texas Motor Speedway in Fort Worth; Deep South Speedway in Loxley, Alabama; and Simpson County Motor Speedway in Mendenhall, Mississippi and the first ever Mississippi State Championship Challenge race held outside the State of Mississippi as the 2nd Annual O’Reilly MSCC/SUPR Challenge will be held at Baton Rouge (Louisiana) Raceway on Saturday, June 26th.

The O’Reilly SUPR Late Models will kick off the 15th season of racing with back to back weekends of racing action over the last weekend in February and the first weekend in March.  The O’Reilly SUPR Late Models will begin the season with a return visit to Pike County Speedway in McComb , Mississippi on February 27-28 for the Fifth Annual Mardi Gras Nationals.  The action will shift west the following weekend as the O’Reilly SUPR Late Models will make their long-awaited first visit to Texas Motor Speedway for the Texas World Dirt Track Championship on March 5-6.  Each weekend will feature two complete racing programs with a 25-lap feature on Friday night and a 50-lap feature on Saturday night.

The Mardi Gras Nationals has become the official starting point for the O’Reilly SUPR Late Models and the event has seen 4 drivers each claim a pair of victories in the first eight events.  1999 O’Reilly SUPR Champion David Ashley won the very first Mardi Gras Nationals event at Baton Rouge Raceway in 2000 and he won the 50-lap feature at Pike County in 2003.  7-time Mississippi State Champion Mike Boland has also taken a pair of victories in 2000 and 2003 with both victories at Pike County Speedway, a 50-lapper in 2000 and the Friday night 25-lap victory in 2003.  Between 2000 and 2003, the event was swept on both nights by one driver with 2002 O’Reilly SUPR Champion Rodney Wing doing the feat in 2001 with wins at Baton Rouge Raceway and Pike County Speedway and 2003 O’Reilly SUPR Champion Kenny Merchant doing the trick in 2002 at Pike County Speedway.

And while the O’Reilly SUPR Late Models have put in thousands of laps at Pike County Speedway, this will be the first time many of the competitors will have run on the Dirt Track at Texas Motor Speedway.  The Dirt Track at Texas Motor Speedway is a state of the art 4/10ths of a mile racing facility with 80’ wide corners with 10-degree banking.  The big track will open its season with the O’Reilly SUPR Late Models and a big $2,500 to win open wheel modified feature that should also attract a strong field of competitors.

The Late Models will then finish off the month of March with two Saturday night shows at Baton Rouge Raceway on the 20th and Lone Star Speedway (Kilgore, Texas) on the 27th.  April will consist of three shows with visits to Champion Park Speedway ( Doyline , Louisiana ) on the 10th, Pike County Speedway on the 17th and Lone Star on the 24th.

The action really picks up in May with events in all five states in the O’Reilly SUPR region.  The action begins at I-30 Speedway in Little Rock, Arkansas on the 1st and then swings from one capital city to another with a return visit to Jackson Motor Speedway on the 8th, followed by the first of two visits to Houston (Texas) Raceway Park on the 15th and then the first of four visits to the newly constructed Deep South Speedway in Loxley, Alabama.  Deep South is a new 4/10ths mile speedway located just north of I-10.  The month of May ends with the traditional Memorial Day 3-day weekend swing through Louisiana with a Friday night (the 28th) show at Many Motorsports Park , a Saturday night show at Thunder Valley Speedway in Glenmora and a Sunday night show at Champion Park .

The action continues in June with a return to Lone Star Speedway on Saturday June 5th, the second leg of the Magnolia State Championship Series at Pike County Speedway in the 12th and then a two-day swing through Arkansas begins with a Friday night show at 67 Speedway in Texarkana on the 18th and a return to I-30 Speedway on Saturday the 19th.  This will be followed by the O’Reilly MSCC/SUPR Challenge at Baton Rouge Raceway on the 26th.

The July 4t weekend will see the tour swing through Louisiana once again starting at Many Motorsports Park on Friday the 2nd, Champion Park on Saturday the 3rd and Sunday night, July 4th at Thunder Valley.  Saturday July 10th will mark a return visit to 67 Speedway followed by a return to Deep South Speedway on the 17th.  The month concludes with the third and final leg of the Magnolia State Championship Series at Pike County Speedway on the 31st.

The 13th Annual Armadillo Nationals will be held on August 6-7 at Lone Star Speedway in Kilgore.  Lone Star Speedway, traditional home of the Armadillo Nationals, will challenge the O’Reilly SUPR competitors as it is one of the biggest and fastest tracks the competitors will visit.

The series will then travel to I-30 Speedway on the for its final Arkansas visit of the season on August 14th before returning to Jackson Motor Speedway on the 28th.

Labor Day weekend kicks off on Saturday, September 4th at Thunder Valley Speedway before returning to Champion Park Speedway on Sunday, September 5th.  The 3rd Annual Longhorn Rumble will be held at Houston Raceway Park on Saturday, September 11th.  The tour will then swing along the gulf coast for a return visit to Deep South Speedway on September 18th.

The O’Reilly SUPR Late Models will then make their first-ever visit to Simpson County Motorsports Park on Saturday, October 9th before returning to Baton Rouge Raceway for the Louisiana State Championships on October 15th and 16th.  The final visit of the year to Deep South Speedway will be a two-day program on October 22nd and 23rd and the season will come to close with the running of the 8th Annual Jambalaya 100 at Pike County Speedway on November 12th and 13th.
