Champion Merchant looking forward to Pro-Cuts weekend!

FORT WORTH-DALLAS (March 1, 2004) – Louisiana’s Kenny Merchant loves racing at the Texas Motor Speedway Dirt Track.  His love for the four-tenths mile clay oval combined with past experience there makes the defending O’Reilly SUPR late model champion one of the favorites to come home first Friday and Saturday nights, March 5-6, in the Pro-Cuts Texas World Dirt Track Championship.

Merchant started the O’Reilly SUPR late model season in champion’s style with a victory in Mississippi’s Mardi Gras Nationals last weekend.  Merchant’s opening weekend put him on top of the SUPR point standings entering the Pro-Cuts Texas events.

“I like racing at the Dirt Track,” said Merchant.  “We are coming over there because of the prestige of running at the Dirt Track.  We like coming over to race in Texas.  There have been big late model races there in the past and if there are more to come in the future, we want to support them also.

“I think we will do well both nights,” continued Merchant.  “We are hoping our past experience there will help put us in Victory Lane.”

Merchant will be wheeling his J.D. Caver & Co./Warrior Race Cars/J&J Motorsports late model in both races.  Saturday night’s feature winners in both the O’Reilly SUPR late models and modified stocks will collect $2,500 apiece. Nearly 50 O’Reilly SUPR late model competitors are expected.  More than 50 modified teams have pre-entered with many more expected on race weekend.

The Pro-Cuts Texas World Dirt Track Championship offers fans full programs in both divisions each evening.  A pair of grandstand tickets for each program are free with a qualifying purchase at Fort Worth-Dallas area Pro-Cuts hair care locations in advance.

Heat races kick off at 5 p.m. both evenings followed by feature events in the two divisions.  More information is available at www.texasmotorspeedway.com or by calling (817) 255-6025.
