Ingalls returns to victory lane in Texas

Fort Worth, Texas (March 5, 2004) – Doug Ingalls made a triumphant return to the O’Reilly SUPR Late Model victory lane as he topped the opening night of the Pro-Cuts Texas World Dirt Track Championship at Texas Motor Speedway.  Ingalls started 13th and became the fourth and final leader of the race as he passed Raymond Merrill on lap 13 to take the lead and the 25-lap victory.  Ingalls, a three-time champion, who rejoined the O’Reilly SUPR Late Model tour full-time early last season, returned to victory lane for the 38-time in his career but the first win at the wheel of the Nash Trucking/Ralo’s Marshall Lube & Auto/PTS Racing Engines Chevrolet Monte Carlo GRT.

Raymond Merrill earned the B&K Underground Top Qualifier Award and started on the pole but it was Ryan Plaisance that took the early lead.  Plaisance led the first four laps before Devil’s Bowl regular Tom Lorenz assumed the point.  Lorenz led laps five through eight when Merrill made his way back to the front.  Merrill’s hold lasted until lap 13 when Ingalls completed an impressive charge passing a car a lap to grab the top spot.  Merrill hung on to second but only after holding off the Creel Brothers Hard Charger Kenny Merchant who went from 19th to third in the 25-lap feature.

Tom Lorenz held on to fourth ahead of Rob Litton, Ronny Adams, Rusty Cummings, Garrett Durrett, rookie competitor Ray Moore and Wayman McMillan.  31 O’Reilly SUPR Late Models were on hand.  Ronny Adams, Ray Moore, Raymond Merrill and Jay Blair topped the heat races with Rusty Cummings and John Sliney taking the last chance wins.

The O’Reilly SUPR Late Models return Saturday night with a complete racing program topped by a big 50-lap feature.
