topping O'Reilly SUPR Sprints at SCMP!

Mendenhall , Mississippi ( April 16, 2004 ) – Michael Herrington returned to championship form winning the O’Reilly SUPR Sprint Car feature at Simpson County Motorsports Park . Herrington started fourth and grabbed third on the start then held that spot until lap six when he jumped to the bottom groove and stormed to the front grabbing the lead from early pace setter Butch David on lap seven. Herrington survived several cautions and heavy lapped traffic to claim his first win of the season. The win culminated a busy short week for the defending O’Reilly SUPR Sprint Car Champion as he had to replace the front clip on his car after a tangle last weekend in the season opener at Baton Rouge Raceway. And Herrington was quick to note that he has a new car on the way so he plans on more victories to come.

Butch David held on to second and in the process he moved into a tie with third place finisher Harold Henderson in the SUPR Championship point standings. Henderson overcame an early wheel stand that landed with such a thud that it broke the front spoiler on his sprinter. Despite, the lack of down force, Henderson was able to keep his mount in the top three and he feels had he jumped to the lower groove earlier, he would have been able to mount a stronger challenge on David for second.

Shane Morgan recorded his second top five finish in as many races and now sits third in the championship standings, just 15 points behind Henderson and David. Cassidy Lejeune recovered from an early exit at Baton Rouge to finish fifth. Terry Vidrine dropped out early in his heat race but he recovered nicely in the feature coming home in sixth ahead of Billy Gunter, Cary Farmer, Bobby Ingram - in his first night out this season and top rookie finisher Jerry Aguillard.

17 O’Reilly SUPR Sprint Cars were on hand. Butch David, Harold Henderson and Shane Morgan topped the heat races with Henderson claimed the Top Qualifier spot with a sixth to first charge in his heat race.
