Terry Vidrine rides good fortune to O'Reilly SUPR Sprint Car
victory at Baton Rouge

Baton Rouge, Louisiana (May 22, 2004) - Terry Vidrine moved up to the outside pole when Shane Morgan's sprinter slid out of line prior to the green flag, and Vidrine was thankful for the good fortune as he used the outside line to storm to his first O'Reilly SUPR Sprint Car victory of the season.  Vidrine brought the $1500 winners share back to Slaughter, Louisiana on a track that hasn't always been so kind to him.  Vidrine flipped his sprinter the first night out this year at Baton Rouge Raceway so he was much happier with tonight's results.

Vidrine ran second in his heat race and was slated to start behind Morgan but once he got the outside line going, he never looked back in the 25 lap feature that was slowed by just two cautions.  The first caution waved on lap two when Billy Gunter dropped the crankshaft in his sprinter.  Shane Morgan and Cary Farmer were collected but Morgan and Farmer were able to continue.  The second caution waved on lap 13 as first time Sprint Car competitor Seavy Clemmons spun in turn four.

When the racing stayed green it was Vidrine running the top and pulling away from pole sitter Michael Dupuy, at the wheel of the 1B car normally driven by Bobby Ingram.  Ingram invited Dupuy to drive the car and Dupuy quickly earned the pole in his first start of the season.  But while Dupuy started on the pole, he was unable to keep up with Vidrine's pace and soon found himself trying to hold off the challenge from Butch David  David would eventually grab second with Dupuy relegated to third at the finish line ahead of Lane Whittington and Mark Stokes who rounded out the top five.

Michael Herrington, Jr., who entered the race having won the last two races, struggled tonight and finished a disappoint sixth place ahead of leading rookie of the year contender Cassidy Lejeune.  Seavy Clemmons recovered from his spin and finished eighth with Mark Tate and Shane Morgan rounding out the top 10.

Attrition was unfortunately a big story tonight as four drivers were unable to make the start due to mechanical troubles and then two other s dropped out in the feature due to motor problems including Harold Henderson, who entered the race in the race in the point lead.  Shane Morgan was about to be in that number as well but he was able to jump into his father's sprinter prior to the start.  Shane started on the rear and finished 10th in the feature event while he father was listed as a did not start.
