David Ashley threads the needle to take third win of the season at Thunder Valley Speedway!
O’Reilly SUPR Late Model victories in 2004 with a convincing win at Thunder Valley Speedway. Ashley was able to catch early race leader Rob Litton on lap 15 and he pulled away to a small but steady cushion over Litton and a fast closing James Ward. That is until the last five laps as Ashley encountered heavy lapped traffic and it became a three car duel for the lead with Ashley able to thread his way through the traffic to hold on to the victory, his 19th career win, tying him with Howard Willis for fifth place on the all-time SUPR win list. Ashley started third and grabbed third at the start behind Litton and B&K Underground Top Qualifier Jay Blair. Ashley battled Blair for second with Litton up front but Blair’s strong run was slowed by a cut left rear following some contact with Ashley. Little David then set his sights on catching Litton and that he did, catching and passing Litton on lap 15. As the race wore on, it appeared that the race would finish uneventfully, that is until less than ten laps remained in the feature and Ashley faced the double whammy of a car that was beginning to push in the corners and heavy lapped traffic. Ashley was able to hold off Litton and Litton was likewise able to hold off Ward, but each driver was able to get a nose under the car in front but was unable to make the pass stick. 22 O’Reilly SUPR Late Models were on hand. David Ashley, Jay Blair and Brock Williams topped the heat races. Robbie Stuart earned the Creel Brothers Hard Charger award for passing six cars in the feature. Official Results:
