Doug Ingalls claims 40th SUPR victory with late race charge
Doug got faster as the race went on. “I wasn’t that quick in the first part of the race. We put on one new tire and three old ones. The right front and the left rear, it took them a long time to ever come in but when they did the car started going.” The final caution gave Doug the opportunity to close in on Rodney to challenge for the win. “I could tell Rodney was picking up a little push and I had already picked up a little push but we had found a different line on the track that kind of compensated for it and I was getting through there better and I seen were he was pushing at I tried to go on a different part of the track and it work for me. I turned a little earlier than he did.” Doug
who has noted that Wing, had a dominant car early but it started to go away in the late stages and he first had to hold off a challenge from David Ashley and then Doug Ingalls in the closing stages. Wing felt that the changing track conditions may have cost him a victory. “We were a little too tight, we’ll maybe a lot too tight, but it was manageable the first part of the race. The blacker the track got, it was fine in the real black in three and four, but one and two had that little dust blowing across it and I kept losing my front tires in that. When I’d lose my front tires I’d just wash out to the wall and have to get ‘er back straight and go. I made that mistake several times but I always had a good enough lead and then finally the 28 car was there close enough and when I made that mistake I paid for it.” The top three of the race took a big turn inside of ten to go as first David Ashley spun while running second on lap 41 and then Chris Wall slowed on the restart after inheriting second from Ashley. Ashley’s bid for the win, ended when he spun out in a case of spin yourself out or spin out the leader as Wing quickly closed what for a second looked to be an opening. Ashley stormed back to finish seventh at the checkers. Chris Wall’s strong run ended early when he slowed on the lap 41 restart with mechanical trouble. Leading B&K Underground/BTW/LMA America SUPR Rookie Ray Moore recorded a solid third place finish after battling amongst the top five all night long. Marlon Wild finished fourth ahead of Mike Boland, who rounded out the top five. Eric Courville, David Ashley, Jay Blair, Rob Litton and Mike Ladner rounded out the top ten. 30 O’Reilly SUPR Late Models were on hand. Eric Courville, Doug Ingalls, David Ashley and Rodney Wing topped the heat races and Kevin Watts topped the Last Chance race. Rodney Wing was the B&K Underground Top Qualifier and Rob Litton, driving a car borrowed from Lester Bernidas, earned the Creel Brothers Hard Charger award for passing 13 cars in the feature. With the win, Doug Ingalls has moved into the lead in the Magnolia State Championship standings. Ingalls is followed closely by Jay Blair and David Ashley who are tied for second with Marlon Wild and Rob Litton rounding out the top five. Official Results: 1. Doug Ingalls 2. Rodney Wing 3.
