13th Annual Armadillo Nationals this weekend!

The O’Reilly SUPR two-seater Late Model will also be on hand
and we’ll be raffling off chances for a ride all weekend long.

Baton Rouge, Louisiana (August 4, 2004) – The O’Reilly SUPR Late Models are headed to Lone Star Speedway in Kilgore, Texas for the 13th Annual Armadillo Nationals presented by ABC Auto Parts and Tyler Ford this Friday and Saturday night, August 6 – 7.  Leading the charge will be hometown hero Doug Ingalls.  Doug will heading to his home track with his third O’Reilly SUPR trophy of the season as he topped a 30-car field at Pike County Speedway this past Saturday night and he’ll be looking to return to the Armadillo victory a lane, a feat he last accomplished in 2002.

The Armadillo Nationals have been good to the Texas contingent the last few years as Ricky Ingalls topped the field in 2000, Doug won in 2002 and last year Robbie Starnes took the title.  Mike Bowers was the last out of state driver to take the win back in 2001.  A strong field of locals will be looking to keep the laurels in the Lone Star State and the first place to look for the contenders is Longview , home of the racing Ingalls.  Doug and Ricky Ingalls are both seeking a return to the Armadillo victory lane while Jason Ingalls seeks his first Armadillo crown.

Houston ’s Robbie Starnes recently reappeared after taking much of the year off from Late Model competition and if he’s on hand he’ll be strong threat to repeat.  Tyler’s Michael Coleman has won at Lone Star in the past and is capable of doing it again and a strong group of racers from the Dallas area have begun to make their presence know as well with Tom Lorenz from Balch Springs and Darren Ellis from Plano potential leaders of the charge.

And wile a strong group of competitors will be on hand from Texas , the first two O’Reilly SUPR victories at Lone Star were posted by a pair of drivers from the Bayou State .  David Ashley from Zachary , Louisiana topped the season opener in March over a field of 38 Late Models and then current O’Reilly SUPR Late Model point leader Rob Litton from Alexandria topped a field of 32 cars in June.  Also of note, Ronny Adams of Greenwood, Louisiana topped the competition this past Saturday night at Lone Star Speedway in a tune up for this weekend’s big show.

With a $5,000 to win, $700 to start purse, the 13th Annual Armadillo Nationals is sure to attract drivers from throughout the region.  And Lone Star Speedway will be pulling in more than Late Models as they have posted a big purse in each of the local divisions with the Modifieds racing for $1,500 to win, the Mod-Lites gunning for $1,000 to win, I Stocks running for $750 to win with both the Hot Stocks and Pure Stocks battling for $500 to win and finally the Mini Mods will race for $250 to win.  Add to this, Edge Racing has posted a $100 to bonus to the winner of each of the local divisions.

The O’Reilly SUPR two-seater Late Model will also be on hand and we’ll be raffling off chances for a ride all weekend long.
