Terry Vidrine hits the road with Champion Park victory!
Doyline, Louisiana (August 14, 2004) – Slaughter, Louisiana’s Terry Vidrine hasn’t shied away from traveling this year sampling different race tracks and racing with different racing organizations and that experience paid off as the O’Reilly SUPR Sprint Cars paid their first visit to Champion Park Speedway. Terry Vidrine started on the pole after topping the second heat race and he led every lap to claim his second O’Reilly SUPR Sprint Car feature of the season. Vidrine started on the pole with Shane Morgan on the outside of the front row. Vidrine jumped to the lead while Morgan charged hard into turn one and went sliding off turn two to bring out the first caution. Morgan would restart on the rear but would be heard from again. Vidrine once again shot to the lead and he paced the field throughout but he was never too far ahead of Michael Herrington, Jr. who paced Vidrine while running second. The caution waved early once again as Joey Pilgrim repeated Morgan’s exit in turn one and two but unfortunately in his case it turned out to be much worse as he exited the track while airborne rolling his sprinter with significant damage to the car but with Pilgrim shaken but able to walk away from the crippled racer. Vidrine led Herrington around for the restart and held him at bay over the 25-laps but Herrington was a constant threat that is until he himself came under threat as Shane Morgan had worked his way back to the front. By mid race point Morgan caught and momentarily passed Herrington as they raced off of turn two but the pass was short-lived as Herrington retook the lead coming off turn four. From that point forward the top three positions were locked as Vidrine held off Herrington with Herrington doing the same to Morgan. And while the battling was in front of him, Butch David recorded a steady top five finish to minimize the impact on his lead in the 2004 O’Reilly SUPR Sprint Car Championship standings. Cary Farmer was another steady performer that used a top five finish to leap frog into the top five in the championship standings. Farmer finished fifth ahead of rookie contenders Richard Holt and Adam Moneyhun. Shane Morgan and Terry Vidrine split the heat races. Official Results: 1. Terry Vidrine 2. Michael Herrington, Jr. 3. Shane Morgan 4. Butch David 5.
6. Richard Holt 7. Adam Moneyhun 8. Neil McCarl 9. Joey Pilgrim 10. David Forbis
