O'Reilly SUPR Sprint Cars to decide 2004 Championship this weekend!

Baton Rouge, Louisiana (October 10, 2004) - The battle for the 2004 O'Reilly SUPR Sprint Cars Championship has boiled down to one race and entering this weekend's Louisiana State Championship any one of three drivers could claim the 2004 crown.  Entering the State Championships 2002 O'Reilly SUPR Sprint Car Champ Butch David leads the title chase by just four points, but it is a lead that David has held on to tenaciously since taking the lead after the fourth race of the season at Baton Rouge Raceway.  Geismar, Louisiana's Butch David has claimed one victory this year and leads the standings on the basis of 10 top five finishes in 11 races and seven top three finishes.  David's one finish outside the top ten was at Baton Rouge Raceway where he lost a motor and finished twelfth in August.

Running in second and closing fast is Shane Morgan, battling for his first SUPR Title.  Morgan has moved to within four points of David on the strength of two victories in a row including an impressive charge to victory at Deep South Speedway in September.  The Gulfport, Mississippi native has also been consistent with nine top five finishes and Morgan has never finished outside the top ten.  Add to that his two victories and a he is on the verge of his first title.

And finally, Michael Herrington, Jr. SUPR's all-time victory leader in the Sprint Car division is just eight points behind Morgan and twelve points behind David in the 2004 standings.  The defending 2003 O'Reilly SUPR Sprint Car Champion from Prairieville, Louisiana started the season on a down note but since that time he's been solid with nine top five finishes and three victories.  Herrington was taken out of the season opener and that 20th place finish placed him a a big deficit that he has steadily overcome.

With the title on the line, all eyes will be on the lead trio but interestingly none of the three title contenders have visited victory lane at Baton Rouge this season.  That distinction goes to Harold Henderson, Jr., Terry Vidrine and Michael Dupuy.  Michael Dupuy, from Amite, Louisiana topped the competition at Baton Rouge Raceway in August and he'll be looking to climb the front stretch fence once again in victory.  Terry Vidrine, from Slaughter, Louisiana topped the competition in May while Amite, Louisiana's Harold Henderson, Jr. claimed the season opener at Baton Rouge.

Also up for grabs is the 2004 O'Reilly SUPR Sprint Car Rookie of the Year title with Jerry Aguillard of Youngsville, Louisiana leading the chase followed closely by Cassidy Lejeune, Adam Moneyhun, Seavy Clemmons and Joey Pilgrim.

The 2004 Louisiana State Championships start with an open practice on Thursday night, October 14th from 8:00 p.m. - 11:00 p.m.  The racing gets started Friday night, October 15th with heat races for the O'Reilly SUPR Sprint Cars, J.D. Byrider UMP Modifieds, Super Stocks, Eagle Motorsports Street Stocks, and Pure Stocks.  In addition Baton Rouge Raceway will have a full $1,000 to win O'Reilly Auto Parts Late Model race program.  The Late Model race is a non-points paying race.

The O'Reilly SUPR Late Models join the program on Saturday night with a full racing program featuring heats, last chance and the $2,500 to win 50 lap feature.  In addition, the 2004 Louisiana State Championships will crown champs on Saturday night, October 16th with Last Chance and Feature races for the O'Reilly SUPR Sprint Cars, Coca-Cola UMP Modifieds, Super Stocks, Eagle Motorsports Street Stocks, and Pure Stocks.
