Rob Litton stamps an exclamation mark on his 2004 Championship!
Glenmora, Louisiana (October 30, 2004) – Rob Litton wrapped up the 2004 O’Reilly SUPR Late Model Championship last week at Deep South Speedway but he felt that there was something lacking. What was lacking in his eyes were victories. Litton, a consistent front runner all year, had recorded just one victory in his title run. Make it two as Litton stormed by Bubba Mullins to take the lead on lap nine and then off a late race challenge from Mullins to take the hometown victory in the John Guidry Memorial at Thunder Valley Speedway. Litton started third but slipped to fourth on the start behind David Ashley, Bubba Mullins and B&K Underground Top Qualifier Jay Blair. Mullins grabbed the lead on lap two while Litton ran fourth in the four-way battle for the lead until lap six when he set his sights on the lead. Litton moved to third on lap seven, second on lap eight and to the lead on lap nine. Mullins held second and he was joined by Ronny Adams who started fifth but slipped to eight at the start before moving up to third by lap nine.
Litton stormed the high side early as he blasted to a big lead while Mullins and Adams battled for second and Ashley and Blair jockeyed for fourth. Lee Davis had a top ten run end early when he slowed on lap 17 and the pace of the race took a hit during the midway mark as a series of yellows slowed the pace of the race but Litton was undeterred up front. The same could not be said for David Ashley spun after contact with Jay Blair on the final of three lap 25 cautions. And
while the battle up front began to settle, there were plenty of racing
going on through the field as Kenny Merchant, James Ward and Jody Prince
were all battling for position all with eyes on the front of the field.
Ward would make it as high as fourth before contact ended his night
on lap 37. Merchant then moved
to fourth and finally moved to third on the last lap as he caught and
passed Ronny Adams on the final lap. Jody
Prince would round out the top five ahead of Jay Blair, an impressive
James Whatley, an equally impressive Brock Williams, Doug Ingalls and
37 O’Reilly SUPR Late Models were on hand with Ronny Adams, Jay Blair, Patrick Daniels, David Ashley and Rob Litton topping the heat race action. Kenny Merchant and James Ward claimed the last chance races and Merchant also claimed the Creel Brothers Hard Charger award after 17th and finishing third. Official Results: 1. Rob Litton 2.
