Garrett Durrett tops Jambalaya!

McComb , Mississippi ( November 13, 2004 ) – Garrett Durrett made good on the promise he showed in preliminary action when he returned to Pike County Speedway to claim the $3,500 50-lap feature.  Durrett searched for the right line to use all of his big motor and when he jumped above the cushion in turns three and four that did the trick as he stormed by David Ashley on lap 29 to retake the lead and he pulled off to his first O’Reilly SUPR Late Model career victory.

Durrett piloted the Garrett Racing/Davison Transport/Outpace Racing Products/Stuckey Enterprises/Pro Power Racing Engines Ford Taurus MasterSbilt to the victory over David Ashley, Chris Wall, Ronny Adams and Scott Slay.

Durrett started on the pole after setting fast time and winning his heat race Friday night but early on it was outside front row starter Mike Boland who grabbed the lead.  Boland would lead the first two laps before Durrett took his first lead.  Durrett would lead for six laps before David Ashley would move from his sixth starting spot to grab the lead.  Ashley would lead Durrett through the mid stages of the race but Durrett would not go down without a fight and once he worked the top far outside groove in, he was quick to work his way back to the front, this time for good.

And while Durrett and Ashley were the show up front, there were several drivers that were working their way through the field with Chris Wall running the bottom groove to work his way from 11th to third at the checkers, Ronny Adams working from 13th to fourth, Doug Ingalls maneuvered from 14th to sixth and Scott Slay who pitted early and had to work his way from the rear to finish fifth.  The biggest mover of the night would be Ray Moore who struggled in qualifying, earned a transfer spot in the last chance race and passed ten cars to move from 19th to ninth in the feature.

The race was shortened to 50-laps and the purse was cut due to poor weather conditions but those same conditions helped to produce a race track that was quick if a bit rough but as the laps wore on, the bottom groove took a strip of rubber with the top side proving to be just as fast.  That’s when Durrett was able to launch his counterattack on Ashley to take the big win.

The night’s action began with a pair of SUPR veterans taking the last chance races with Ronny Adams winning the first and Doug Ingalls topping the second.
