Herrington continues to set O'Reilly SUPR Sprint pace at season opener!

Mendenhall, Mississippi (March 12, 2005) – The 2005 O’Reilly SUPR Sprint Cars season kicked off and two-time defending champion Michael Herrington quickly asserted his clout over the field once again.  Herrington chased down early pace setter Terry Vidrine to score his 18th career victory.  Herrington, of Prairieville , Louisiana started the night off by winning the first heat with Harold Henderson scoring the second heat victory.

But while it was Herrington and Henderson setting the pace in the heats it was Terry Vidrine, from Slaughter, Louisiana who would set the pace in the feature with Herrington in tow.  Vidrine elected to run the bottom groove and that choice paid off early as he was able to build a slight lead on Herrington but an early caution on lap three for contact between Seavy Clemmons and Billy Gunter kept the front runners in close proximity of each other.  But once the field was back under green Vidrine kept his line while Herrington began searching for a faster line.  This effort would slowed one more time on lap 10 when the caution waved for Paul Gleber but soon Herrington was running the high side at Simpson County Motor Speedway and he was able to move past Vidrine for the lead on lap 15.  Herrington then jumped to the bottom and held the point to the checkers despite being slowed one final time on lap 19 when the caution waved for the third and final time for Jerry Aguillard and Gunter.

Terry Vidrine would hold on to second with Shane Morgan of Gulfport , Mississippi making a strong charge from the rear after turning up light at the scales at the end of heat one.  Morgan led a fellow Mississippi competitor Rusty Sanford from Seminary across the line with Amite , Louisiana ’s Larry Todd rounding out the top five.

13 O’Reilly SUPR Sprint Cars were on hand but only 12 took the green in the feature as 2002 O’Reilly SUPR Sprint Car Champion Butch David was sidelined following a heat race tangle with Jerry Aguillard left him with a car too wounded to continue.
