Michael Herrington tops Baton Rouge battle!
Baton
Rouge, Louisiana (April 2, 2005) – The O'Reilly SUPR Sprint Cars were
blessed with a solid field of race cars with 22 O’Reilly SUPR Sprinters
on hand and a well-prepared multi-groove race track but the end result was
familiar, Michael Herrington, Jr. was in victory lane for the 19th
time. Herrington, the two-time
defending O’Reilly SUPR Sprint Car champion is undefeated after two
events this season and for three races in a row, dating back to last
year’s season finale held at the same track as tonight’s races, Baton
Rouge Raceway. Herrington
started the feature on the outside pole and survive a trio of restarts
that first saw pole sitter David Kountz, who was sent back a row for
jumping the second start, and then Lincoln Gatwood each attempt to outrun
Herrington at the drop of the green but neither was able to keep
Herrington from grabbing the lead. And
once Herrington had the lead, he was not intending on relinquishing it. Herrington
was able to maintain his hold on the lead throughout the 25-lap feature as
lapped traffic only aided his efforts, placing lapped cars between
Herrington and Lane Whittington on restarts.
Whittington battled to second but was unable to get a clear run on
Herrington to challenge for the lead and was forced to settle for second. Terry
Vidrine would stake claim on third with Official
