Raymond Merrill takes NCRA/SUPR Challenge!

Oklahoma City, Oklahoma (July 4, 2005) – The O’Reilly NCRA/SUPR Challenge proved to be a classic spec motor vs. open motor battle early as Raymond Merrill and Ronny Adams diced for position with Adams leading the first seven laps but once Merrill was able to roll by Adams, he was able to pull clear and went on to hold off Al Purkey to claim the win.  Merrill took advantage of Adams’ tight race car in turn three and slipped under on lap eight and powered by Ronny as they raced off of turn four. 

The race was slowed just once after the race got started and it happened on lap nine when Ronnie Warman got bumped racing off of turn one and slid into the hay bales and then the ute tires protecting the outside light pole.  Warman tried to save his race car but the right rear dug in once he got over the top of the track and it flipped his car into the tires.  Warman was able to walk away unharmed.

With a long green flag stretch traffic was Merrill’s biggest challenge but with Purkey closing in during the final stages, Robbie Starnes was able race clear of Merrill and Purkey was unable to get close enough to take a stab at the victory, electing to run a safe second.

Adams slipped back to third on lap eight and then lost third to David Conkwright on lap 10.  As the race wore on, Adams’ car came back to him and he was able to retake third on lap 33 bring Steve Kosiski with him as they moved by Conkwright.

22 O’Reilly NCRA/SUPR Late Models were on hand.  Raymond Merrill, Ronny Adams and David Conkwright topped the heat races.
