Not even the rain can stop Herrington at Jackson!

Jackson, Mississippi (July 9, 2005) – Despite the threat and reality of rain at Jackson Motor Speedway, the show went on with Prairieville, Louisiana’s Michael Herrington charging form the pole position to score his fourth O’Reilly SUPR Sprint Car victory of the season.  The race was delayed by rain but the persistence of the Jackson Motor Speedway paid off with the feature being complete by 12:30 despite the three hour rain delay.

Michael Herrington and his closest championship contender Terry Vidrine shared the heat race wins and started side by side in the feature with Herrington getting the jump and leading all 20-laps of the feature to take the win.  Passing was at a premium as the earlier rains made for a tight racing surface.  That’s all the advantage Herrington needed as he pull clear to take the win with sixth place starter Michael Dupuy able to race through the field to move up to second by lap 15 but he was unable to mount a serious challenge to Herrington’s lead.  Dupuy has now scored a first and a second in two events in 2005.

Terry Vidrine would hold on to third and he remains just 20 points behind Herrington in the battle for the 2005 O’Reilly SUPR Sprint Car Championships.  Harold Henderson ran a solid fourth followed by Seavy Clemmons, who recovered from a flip in his heat race to score fifth in the feature.

10 O’Reilly SUPR Sprint Cars were on hand but with Hurricane Dennis’ path still uncertain, Gulfport, Mississippi’s Shane Morgan and family elected to return home to secure their home in case of a close call.  Larry Todd, of Amite encountered engine problems and parked his car prior to the beginning of the heat races.
