Baton
Rouge Raceway and Pike County Speedway set to kick off
Baton Rouge, Louisiana (February 20, 2006) – The 2006 O’Reilly SUPR Late Model Championship season gets underway this weekend with a big doubleheader weekend at Baton Rouge Raceway and Pike County Speedway. Now in it’s 17th season of sanctioning dirt late model racing in the gulf south, the O’Reilly Auto Parts back Southern United Professional Racing (SUPR) series’ 2006 Championship season is the most ambitious to date with 40 races scheduled in six states and for the first-time ever the series will crown three regional champions in addition to the series champion. The racing season starts Friday night, February 24th at Baton Rouge Raceway with the 2nd Annual Cajun Classic. The race will feature the O’Reilly SUPR Late Models competing in a 50-lap main event. The O’Reilly SUPR Late Model competitors will draw for starting position and will earn passing points passed on start and finishing position in the heat races. The top sixteen competitors will transfer to the main event with the remaining drivers running last chance qualifiers to determine the final line-up of the 50-lap feature. Joining
the O’Reilly SUPR Late Models will be local racing divisions including
the UMP Modifieds, Limited Modifieds, Street Stocks and Pure Stocks.
The gates open at Baton
Rouge Raceway will host an open practice session Thursday, February 23rd
to allow competitors a chance to break in their new race cars.
