Baton Rouge, Louisiana (March 23, 2007) – Jerry Cassano led all but the final lap in the O’Reilly SUPR Modified debut feature at Baton Rouge Raceway. That win got away when lapped traffic slowed his final charge but tonight there would be no doubt about Cassano’s victory. Cassano earned the Raceworx Graphics Top Qualifier award after winning the third heat race and he used the pole to grab the lead from the start. Cassano would lead all 30-laps to take the win over Billy Collett, winner of the previous O’Reilly SUPR Modified event at Swinging Bridge Speedway in Jackson , Mississippi .
Collett tried to make the race close but with few cautions to slow the pace, the chances for closing the gap where few and Cassano was able to pull clear for the win when challenged. Danny Hebert would finish third and in the process take the lead in the battle for the first-ever O’Reilly SUPR Modified Championship. Hebert leads by 10 points over fourth place finisher Rusty Cooper. Tommy Cannon would round out the top five and he trails Cooper by just 12 points in the point standings.
Mike Roe started 12th and worked his way to sixth while Michael Blount earned the Kapco Diversified Hard Charger Award after starting 14th and advancing to seventh. Mark Herbert, Charles Sibley and Mike Melton rounded out the top ten.
Danny Hebert opened the action by winning the first heat but only after the action was halted by a nasty tumble in turn one by Richie Ginn. Ginn caught a rut in the track and flipped violently, ending up in his roof. Ginn quickly emerged from the race car unhurt but the car appeared to be damaged beyond repair.
Jamie LaPrairie won the second heat race with Cassano claiming the third.
