Shane Hebert storms to first O'Reilly SUPR Modified victory!
Baton Rouge, Louisiana (April 13, 2007) – On a night where the Texas weather grounded Ken Schrader and kept him from joining the O’Reilly SUPR Modifieds at Baton Rouge Raceway it was a Cajun Storm that hit the track as the Shane Hebert rolled over the competition. Hebert started on the pole after earning the Race Worx Custom Graphics Top Qualifier award and he would grab the lead at the start with Joel Couvillion making the early challenge.
Jerry Cassano would move to second on lap eight and he kept the pressure on Shane Hebert until contact with the backstretch wall would end Cassano’s challenge. Couvillion would retake the runner-up spot but for only two laps as David Ashley, wheeling the #19 MasterVac modified originally slated for Schrader. Ashley moved to second and looked to get by Hebert but Shane was up to the task holding off Ashley, the three-time and defending O’Reilly SUPR Late Model Champion. Ashley would begin to lose fuel pressure and Joel Couvillion made one last charge forward grabbing second on lap on lap 22 but he was unable to catch Shane.
David Ashley would finish third ahead of Tommy Cannon, who secured the lead in the 2007 O’Reilly SUPR Modified standings ahead of Danny Hebert who would finish 10th and slip to second in the championship standings. Curtis Vicknair would round out the top five with Brandon Butler, Kevin Maddox, KAPCO Hard Charger Mike Melton, who started 19th and charged to 8th, Charles Sibley and Danny Hebert making up the top 10.
23 O’Reilly SUPR Modifieds were on hand with 21 cars taking the feature start as Kerry Vicknair suffered mechanical woes while Gared Bailey took a nasty tumble in the W3 normally wheeled by James Ward. Shane Hebert, Brandon Butler, David Ashley and Jerry Cassano won the heat races.
