Robbie Stuart romps to victory at Houston Raceway Park!
Baytown, Texas (April 21, 2007) – Robbie Stuart made a late race charge to capture the win at the new smaller, faster Houston Raceway Park. Stuart chased down race long leader Ray Moore and grabbed the point with five to go and held off local favorite Chris Brown to take the win. Afterward, Stuart who has had his share of bad luck in Texas including rolling his new car two years ago at Texas Motor Speedway admitted that maybe it was time to change his thinking. “Maybe Texas is going to be good to me after all.”
Stuart started sixth and in the early stages of the race he did little to advance his position. The driver advancing early was Ray Moore who jumped from third to first at the drop of the green. Moore would build a big lead through the race but as his tires faded and the outside line began to go away a giant battle erupted over the last ten laps as Kenny Merchant, who started 16th moved to second and then Jason Ingalls lead a group of SUPR spec motored racers around the bottom groove to the front. Ingalls would get as high as second with Stuart in tow. Stuart found the opening to get under Ingalls in turn one and just three laps later Stuart grabbed the lead from Moore. Chris Brown would move to second with three laps to go after running eight with just 15 laps to go.
Kenny Merchant would hold his outside line to finish third with Allen Tippen moving to fourth at the checkers while Moore faded to fifth.
25 O’Reilly SUPR Late Models were on hand. Ronny Adams, Howard Willis and Ray Moore topped the heat races.
