David Ashley scores an historic sweep at Pike County Speedway!
McComb, Mississippi (April 28, 2007) – David Ashley recorded an historic sweep tonight winning both the O’Reilly SUPR Late Model feature and the O’Reilly SUPR Modified feature at Pike County Speedway. Ashley wheeled the B&K Underground/Serco/J&J Motorsports Jay Dickens powered Monte Carla Trak-Star to the win after overcoming an early lead by Sam Patrick. Ashley survived a slow early pace to the race caused by a series of early cautions to grab control and pull away from Patrick who would hold steady in second. And while the win was impressive, Ashley had little time to celebrate as he had to jump behind the wheel of the #19 MasterVac Modified. Ashley has been driving the car on a part time basis recently, scoring his first win in the car on Friday night at Baton Rouge Raceway. Ashley would win again but not with out challenge (several actually). Ashley would duel early with Jerry Cassano before securing the lead. By lap 10 Michael Blount moved to second and was challenging Ashley for the lead, but Blount’s challenge was trumped by Billy Collett who took over second on lap 15 and pressured Ashley through the remainder of the race but Ashley was ready, holding on for the win.
The O’Reilly SUPR Late Models feature was slow to get underway as two wrecks forced restarts, the first when Ryan Plaisance and Kevin Watts got together and the second when Chris Hoyt, Gene Coumes, Allen Tippen, Donald Watson and Lee Davis all tangled. One lap later Kenny Merchant would bring out the caution. From that point forward the race would go with only minor interruptions (lap 11 caution for Jason Ingalls and a lap 33 caution for Chris Wall, who blew the motor in a car being used for the filming of the movie “Dirt Track Dreams”. Ashley pulled away for the win while Sam Patrick held steady in second followed by Curt Lipsey, Rob Litton, James Ward and Kenny Merchant, recovering from the early trip to the rear to finish sixth.
The O’Reilly SUPR Modified feature was also slowed at the start when Charles Sibley and Jeremiah Oalman got together. Oalman would tangle with Johnny Breeland on lap two but then the race got underway in earnest with several cars joining the battle for the lead but Ashley was up to the challenge in just his second O’Reilly SUPR Modified start.
O’Reilly SUPR Late Model heat winners were James Ward, Curt Lipsey and David Ashley with Lee Davis scoring the last chance win.
The O’Reilly SUPR Modifieds heats were won by David Ashley and Jerry Cassano.
