Mike Ladner first O'Reilly SUPR Mod repeat winner!

Pass Christian, Mississippi (May 12, 2007) – Mike Ladner became the first repeat winner on the 2007 O’Reilly SUPR Modified tour when apparent winner Jeff Cooper was disqualified for being too light at the scales at South Mississippi Speedway.  Ladner survived an early race trip to the rear and made a late race charge to grab second in the closing stages.  Ladner was unable to make it past Cooper on the track but did so at the scales.  The race was slowed early and often by cautions and this may have played a factor in Cooper’s trouble.  Cooper led much of the race but was not without challengers as several drivers took their best shot at the lead including George Gilbert, Billy Collett and Ben Stephens but each would fade from contention and this set the stage or the final shoot-out that included Cooper, Brian Rouse, Ladner and Tommy Cannon.  Cooper held the top spot but Ladner made a late charge driving the high and low side when needed and he made the eventual winning move in the late stages following another caution.  Rouse would finish second followed by Cannon, Lance Broadus and Ben Stephens, back from the rear after a mid-race spin sent him to the rear.

19 O’Reilly SUPR Modifieds were on hand.  Jeff Cooper, George Gilbert and Ben Stephens opened up the night of racing by winning the heat races with Glbert grabbing the pole as the top qualifier but it was Cooper who grabbed the lead from the start.  The early stages of the race were slowed by several cautions and the pace of the cautions only seemed to slow a bit in the middle stages of the race but when the racing was under green, the action was intense as late afternoon rain shower did little to harm the South Mississippi Speedway racing surface and the drivers took advantage of the wide racing line.
