Binky makes best of second chance at BRR!

Baton Rouge, Louisiana (June 15, 2007) – James Ward scored his second O’Reilly SUPR victory of the season, leading all 50-laps at Baton Rouge Raceway to take the win.  But that’s just half the story, the real story is that of a strong racer getting a second chance at success.

James “Binky” Ward has achieved much success racing on a shoe string budget, winning three O’Reilly SUPR events while fielding his own car.  But like any racer running at the local level, Binky wanted more but he needed help to get their.  He may have found that help in the form of Dickey Allen.  Allen has fielded cars under the banner of Triple A Diesel Service for the likes of Tracy Gibbens, a four-time SUPR winner, and more recently Dwight Falcon.

Ward is thankful for the opportunity to drive for Allen and Dickey has stepped up his role as car owner, supplying a fresh new MasterSbilt for this weekend and a new hauler for the team to get to the races in style.  For his part Binky has tried to perform his best, scoring an O’Reilly SUPR event at Deep South Speedway in early May but he shared that he wasn’t satisfied with his performance in recent weeks.  Not that Dickey has pushed Ward to perform.  “He’s easy to please, he doesn’t expect too much out of me but I’m not used to running in the middle of the pack, I expect to run up front. Well Ward is excited now as he finished putting together the new MasterSbilt that carried them to victory; that and the Russell Baker horsepower.  The combination was just the trick tonight as Ward started on the pole after winning his heat race over Chris Hoyt and current SUPR point leader Ray Moore.

In the feature Ward had his hands full running up front with an unconventional package for a summer race at Baton Rouge Raceway, soft tires and an open motor.  But Ward was lucky enough to get a few well-timed cautions allowing him to keep his tires cool enough to hold up to 50-laps of pressure from Breazeale.  Joining the battle in the late stages was David Ashley who rallied from 17th but ran out of time to catch the front duo.

Kenny Merchant scored fourth with Ray Moore scoring another top five finish followed by Rob Litton, Marlon Wild, Chris Hoyt, Donald Watson and Curt Lipsey.

23 O’Reilly SUPR Late Models were on hand with Ryan Plaisance, James Ward and David Breazeale taking the heat wins and 21 cars taking the green as Kennith Crowe broke in his heat race and Mickey Trosclair, Sr. turned over the wheel of his Late Model in a bizarre set of last moment car switches that saw Ryan Plaisance exit his own car when a rear tire shook loose during the warm-up laps.  Plaisnace then jumped in the #M5 that he fields for Mickey Trosclair, Jr. and Jr. in turn jumped into the #21 originally piloted by Trosclair Sr.  After all the jockeying, Plaisance would finish in 19th while Trosclair, Jr. would climb to 12th from the rear.
