O'Reilly SUPR Late Models release results of
Ray Moore engine inspection!
Baton Rouge, LA (July 5, 2007) - As is the normal policy of the O’Reilly SUPR Late Model Series, Ray Moore’s motor was inspected following his recent first place finish at Champion Park Speedway on June 30, 2007. The Moore team elected to bring the motor in question to the SUPR offices in Baton Rouge, Louisiana for the inspection that was performed by SUPR founder Donald Watson and SUPR President Greg Holmes. The following are the notes prepared by Donald Watson following the inspection that resulted in the disqualification of Ray Moore and the motor prepared by Jay Dickens Racing Engines.
Subject: Inspection of Ray Moore's SUPR spec engine by Donald Watson
Inspection of heads consisted of:
-
Checking bore and stroke - checked OK to specs
-
Checked intake opening on head - checked OK to specs
-
Checked combustion chamber volume on # 7 cylinder - minimum requirement is 60cc - check Failed below specs
As stated in rule book- “Intake port polishing will be allowed No more than 1½” be the bottom of the original seat ring on the back side of the bowl area, and no more than 1” on the short side. Any opening up of head past these points will be illegal.”
Checked back side of bowl area - checked OK
Checked short side of bowl area - check Failed
Checked intake and exhaust valves - check Failed
Upon inspection of valves it was determined that the valves are lighter than latest light weight steel valve available. As such, the valves; whether titanium or some special alloy; are not legal in SUPR competition.
At this point I did not perform any other checks on the head for further legality. These heads were disqualified and not legal under the SUPR specs. Any one of these infractions could be ground for disqualification.
