Devin Jones
SUPRize
winner at
Deep South!
Loxley,
Alabama
(August 25,
2007) – The
O’Reilly
SUPR Late
Models
visited the
big 4/10th
mile oval at
Deep South
Speedway and
it was an
unfamiliar
starting on
the pole.
That face
belonged to
Devin Jones
of Baker,
Florida. By
the time the
race was
over people
knew who
Jones is a
he mastered
the
competition
to win his
first
O’Reilly
SUPR
victory.
Driving a
Larry Shaw
Race Cars
chassis and
propelled by
an engine
prepared by
Cody Johnson
of
Crestview,
Florida,
Jones jumped
to the lead
with outside
pole sitter
Ray Moore on
his heals.
Jones would
build a
cushion over
Moore
through the
early stages
and when the
pair
encountered
lapped
traffic it
was Moore
who would
slip up and
drop back
several
positions
while Jones
maintained
the lead.
As the race
wore on it
became clear
that Jones
was a likely
winner but
he would
have one
last
challenge to
overcome as
defending
O’Reilly
SUPR Late
Model
National
Champion
David Ashley
had moved up
to second
from his
seventh
starting
position and
was looking
for a chance
to make a
move on
Jones. That
chance never
came and the
owner of
Northwest
Florida Land
Clearing had
his first
O’Reilly
SUPR victory
in just his
third year f
racing and
just his
second
season
competing in
a late
model. Jones
credited the
victory a
really good
car and a
decision to
forego the
outside
line. “I
could have
run faster
but I didn’t
want to
leave the
bottom
open.”
Ricky Idom,
from
Hattiesburg,
Mississippi
started and
finished
third after
winning his
heat race
while Kenny
Merchant and
Allen Tippen
rounded out
the top
five. 22
O’Reilly
SUPR Late
Models were
on hand.
Ricky Idom,
Ray Moore
and Devin
Jones won
the three
heat races.
