Bub McCool and Richie Ginn score first SUPR victories at Pike County!

Magnolia, Mississippi (September 15, 2007) – The O’Reilly SUPR Late Models and Modifieds combined to put on an exciting show at Pike County Speedway and the event ended with two first-time winners, Bub McCool in the Late Model show and Richie Ginn in the Modified race.  For McCool, it may have been his first O’Reilly SUPR Late Model victory but he wasn’t an unfamiliar face in the Pike County Speedway victory lane as McCool cut his teeth on the dirt ovals of Southeast Mississippi before hitting the national trail as a rookie contender on the old Hav-A-Tampa circuit.  Returning to full-time racing last year, McCool has now recorded five victories this season but tonight was the first with SUPR for the Vicksburg, Mississippi veteran.  Ginn, on the other hand has competed in most of the O’Reilly SUPR Modified shows and proved that he was ready for prime-time with an impressive win over several SUPR Mod winners including Danny Hebert, Billy Collett, Shane Hebert and last night’s winner Kevin Dupont.

McCool started the feature in his McCool Logging/CauseTCan Racing/Tony Barker-powered Pontiac GTO Trak-Star on the outside pole with David Ashley starting on the pole.  McCool would grab the lead from the start, holding off two of the hottest races in the Gulf South as first David Ashley and then Chris Wall moved in to challenge.  Ashley would tangle with Marlon Wild and then later with Chris Hoyt in a disappointing night while Chris Wall would see his own disappointment as he actually moved by McCool only to see the caution wave negating the pass.  McCool would not give Wall a second chance holding off Wall, Scott Slay, Ryan Plaisance and Kevin Watts to take the win.

For Ginn the battle was won on the start as he got the lead in his River City Metal Fab/Dakota Sky Racing Bob Pierce Modified from Danny Hebert and held on to the lead through several early cautions before settling in for the remainder of the race in a position that may have been a new spot for the Baton Rouge hot shoe but a position he appeared to be very comfortable with as he kept the field at bay.  Danny Hebert with his second place finish, nudged closer to taking the title in the inaugural season of the O’Reilly SUPR Modified Series.  The races began with Richie Ginn and Danny Hebert taking the heat races.

22 O’Reilly SUPR Late Models were on hand and the event began with three heat races.  David Ashley, Bub McCool and Marlon Wild won the heat races but it was the wild ride by Kenny Merchant in heat one that had everyone talking.  As the field hit the backstretch a car got loose and as everyone jockeyed for position Merchant got airborne, flipping violently before coming to rest with Merchant climbing out of a brand new Trak-Star chassis that did its job.  The car may not race again but Merchant can.

The top three O’Reilly SUPR Late Models were required to pull the intake valve and after inspection by the O’Reilly SUPR tech inspectors the motors built by Tony Barker, Wall2Wall Racing Engines (Chris Wall) and Jay Dickens (Scott Slay) all passed inspection.
